Spice is a pop album that incorporates styles such as dance, R&B and hip hop. It is considered to be the record that brought teen pop back, opening the doors for a wave of teen pop artists. Conceptually, the album centered on the idea of Girl Power, and the hype surrounding the group was compared to Beatlemania.

It was preceded by the release of the four singles "Quarter Past Midnight", "Doom Days", "Joy" and "Those Nights", and followed by "Another Place". The first disc features thirteen hit singles and two new tracks, "Midnight Madness" and "Keep My Composure" (featuring a guest appearance of the rap group Spank Rock)—while the second CD contains all ten parts of The Chemical Brothers' "Electronic Battle Weapon" series of special mixes, which the duo have been recording since 1996.
